okay outing myself as the worst gamer to ever call themselves even a ~casual gamer~
so at this point i’ve gathered that mass effect is a FPS/dating sim/sci-fi epic space drama where you can choose your main character’s sex and then pretty much get lots of hot, hot alien action depending on how many health kits you shove under their scales/heavy space armor during missions

Yep! Game inna nutshell. Though what the first commenter said is true, the dating sim bits are generally more about comradeship and teamwork and being awesome bros with your awesome party members. (Except you, Ashley “Snotty McRacistbitch” Williams. Fuck you.) Everyone loves the romancing aspects, though, so they get a disproportionate amount of press to the space they actually take up in the games.
(And yes, Ran, there ARE options for hilarious interspecies sexins in-game.)
