Expo’s Grand ElecTRONica Adventure and Ensuing Nightmare Part I: It Was The Best of Times…

No, seriously, it really, really was.

I had a phenomenal amount of fun at Disneyland and ElecTRONica with Brightdreamer, Shirozora, Smiley_Anon, and Kaztiel (with special guests Kesomon and Typoaway!  Hi guys, you’re awesome!).  For those first three days, the trip could not have gone more perfectly.

My flight to LAX was easy as pie (and I got a little choked up looking across the bay to my former beloved homeland during my 30 min layover in Oakland sob), and I met up with Brightdreamer without a hitch.  We hung out and talked nerdy to each other for 15 minutes or so, then got picked up by Shirozora, who I was DELIGHTED to discover was just as tiny as I was.  (I was feeling even shrimpier than usual next to 6’ tall Bright).  From thence we hied off to Anaheim in Shiro’s cute lil gray car with That One Fanart Of Tron With The Ass Shot displayed prominently on its dashboard LCD.  We checked into our hotel, walked over to Didneylan, ate lunch in New Orleans Square (clam chowder in bread bowls and mint juleps fuck yes), went on Pirates, and proceeded to be eight year olds for the rest of the afternoon.  It was rad.

We took a 45 minute nap after assing around Tomorrowland, got woke up by Separate Ways, and headed over to California Adventure for the start of ElecTRONica.  I had this feeling when we got there that we were gonna end up meeting random other folks from Tumblr, and I was not wrong.  Not fifteen minutes into the countdown for the opening number we met Kesomon and Typoaway, and proceeded to hang with them for the rest of the night.  I kicked Kesomon’s ass at air hockey disc wars at Flynn’s (\o/), watched the girls drink glowy mojitos and flail around with discs while dancing, and got to get a pic with the girls and the fan-favorite Eckert after his utterly wibble-inducing final speech. ;_;  Then we went and met up with Sharn/Smiley_Anon at IHOP and talked nerdy some more.

Day 1: Five Stars, would do again.

And did!

Didneyland/ElecTRONica: The Next Day was similarly rad.  We spent a bit more time over at California Adventure and went on some of the niftier rides there, ate lunch at this one awesome pizza/pasta joint in Tomorrowland, and met up with our final party member Kaz!

Special mention must be made of the new-and-improved Star Tours, here: oh man, guys.  I hadn’t been to Disneyland in close to twelve years, and not on my eternal favorite Star Tours since the upgrade.  There are like a dozen different destinations/endings, and while we got a couple repeats we managed to land all the best and rarest ones!  So awesome.

The Eckert for Sunday’s ElecTRONica show was different, but he put on an awesome performance.  Smiley_Anon entered the disc-throwing contest but sadly lost to a particularly badass ten-year old, but she kicked MY ass at air hockey later that evening, so it balanced out.  (She also kicked the ass of a random Flynn’s denizen in one of the most brutal games of Air Hockey I have ever witnessed.  I see now why her specialty fic character is Rinzler.)

ALSO of note: the ten-minute “Extended Trailer” for Tron Legacy that got shown every 15 minutes or so in a 3D theater at ElecTRONica.  I had not gone to see Legacy in 3D because I’m not a big fan of it…but I have to say, Legacy sure looked a LOT better than I thought it would in 3D.  We were kind of sad we couldn’t just stick around and watch the whole movie, tralala…

Alas, however, all good things must come to an end, and at 10 pm the MCP showed its spoilsport ass up to ruin everyone’s fun forever.  Fucking MCP.

After another last round on Star Tours and Space Mountain (during which I experienced a few mysterious sharp pains in my right lower abdomen, but they went away so I ignored it, ha ha ha…) we tearfully parted ways with Shirozora, Sharn, and Kesomon, and me and Bright went to bunk with Kaztiel for a night.  Homegirl has got the most radical collection of Tron and other fantastic nerdy bullshit I have ever seen.  We saw Bright off early in the morning at Ontario airport (sob), I hung about with Kaz for another few hours, and then she drove me into Downtown LA to catch my Greyhound. (sob sob)

Little did I know it as I boarded…but that Greyhound bus was about to take a hard left turn.  Into HELL.

TUMBLR I AM HOME NOW

::hugs you all forever and ever::

I am taking this opportunity to go on record and say that you are all the best buddies a girl could ever have, times infinity.  Thank you to everyone who texted me with well wishes and kept me company and generally made my miserable 3 weeks at UWMC Harborview a little bit better.  I love you all so much.  I am so glad I gathered up the balls to join this community back in January.  It’s seriously the best thing that’s happened to me in a year or more.

A gigantic “Expo’s Grand ElecTRONica Adventure And Subsequent Descent into Medical Hell” series of posts will be going up over the course of this week, along with ficlets and Uprising commentary and an Avengers review when I finally get to see it and all kinds of other shit.  STAY TUNED.

::continues to hug you all forever::
